We seem to have a duck laying double yolk eggs. Some of the ducks have been laying eggs for a couple of weeks now since taking a break in the fall and one of our ladies has given us a few with double yolks. Pretty cool. We only got one with a double yolk last year and I thought that might have been a fluke, but since we aren’t out with the birds all the time we aren’t sure if it’s one of the older ducks or one of last summer’s babies that are giving us these giants.
I posted this video on YouTube. Click HERE to have a look. Our YouTube Channel is called Ducks’n’Stuff and I have the video of the tiny yolk-less egg on there as well. Eventually I’ll post some other videos of what’s been going on around the farm…and if I’m brave, I’ll get a cooking video up one of these days.
In the mean time, enjoy the egg videos and if it’s stormy where you are I hope you’ve got a good supply of snacks, blankets, books or movies, and some good snugglers to keep you company.
Little Miss was collecting eggs this morning and was super excited to find a “tiny egg”. We’ve had odd eggs before and include ripples in the shell, bumps on the shell, super soft shells, speckled shells, jumbo eggs with double yolks, and now tiny egg. I was researching some other chicken related issues and came across the tiny egg phenomenon. They are often called witch eggs and contain no yolks.
The kids couldn’t wait to crack it open and see what we actually had so Little Miss took a video to show everyone. Just don’t look at the breakfast crumbs left on the counter. 🙂
I had to post it to YouTube so just follow the link HERE. It’s my first YouTube video!
Long time since my last post. I’ve been thinking about what I want to blog about first and can’t come to a decision. I guess it’s list making time.
Our winter is holding firm and everyone around me seems to be sick of it, but growing up in Labrador has tempered me. I love it! Little man keeps saying he wants it to be summer, until he gets outside jumping through the snow and climbing up hills to break icicles off the house, and then there’s no mention of spring, summer or anything other than snow and ice.
This week was a baking week for me. The Great British Bake Off has inspired me to try lots of new things so I’ve separated myself from my usual chocolate chip cookies and banana bread to try other things like profiteroles, coconut macaroons, soft pretzels, and a scrumptious cheddar and beef pie. The pie recipe was a link I came across on Facebook so I’ll post the link as well as my changes and some of my pics. Hubby was my wonderful photographer for that project so a big thanks for that. I usually get half way through a project and can’t take pics with gunk all over my hands so I guess I’ll have to set up the tripod for times when he’s at work.
The past few weeks have been busy with kids, animals, house stuff, knitting, meetings, and all the other usual stuff that goes along with life and hopefully I can get a post of two done on the weekend of some of that.
Hope you have all been well and eat something decadent for desert this evening.
